Always searching for the one I can't find.

The one who will help me put my past behind.

Opening doors and they are not there.

Years of silence.

Wondering if they hear.

Desperate hours.

Clinging to hope.

Where were you when I needed you most?

Why did you abandon me all of these years?

Suffering through life alone.

Drowning in tears.

Just when I thought all was lost I found her.

Till then I did not know who would rescue me from myself.

In my darkest hour I caught a glimpse of her.

I closed my eyes trying to capture her image in my mind.

She whispered softly.

"I have always been here"

"I have given you strength"

"I have helped you survive"

"I saw you opening doors looking for me"

"I closed them once you walked through"

"Letting you put your past behind"

I opened my eyes and finally we met.

Words could not escape my lips.

Staring at the one I needed to trust the most.

Capturing my own reflection in the mirror.

Capturing my own inner self.

Knowing the words I spoke were true.

Finally realizing it was me I needed to find.

I had coped.

I had survived my darkest hours.

My greatest strength came from within.

I looked back at the person I had longed to become.
We had journeyed through life.

We were one and the same.
